Biography (Educator)

Jim Hopson began teaching music lessons in 2004, and has since established a vibrant teaching studio in Vancouver, BC. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Trombone Performance (with distinction) from the University of Victoria. Jim is the in-house low brass instructor at St John’s School, Seycove Secondary, St. George’s School, UBC Summer Music Institute, and West Point Grey Academy, and is the band specialist at Vancouver Talmud Torah Elementary. His private students have successfully auditioned for the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Vancouver Academy Orchestra, Lord Byng Fine Arts Mini-School, UBC School of Music, and Capilano University Jazz Studies. He has taught brass techniques classes at the University of British Columbia and has presented masterclasses and educational concerts at schools throughout BC. He also teaches at his home studio, conveniently located near the new King Edward Skytrain station.

Lessons and clinics are fun, relaxed, and encouraging.

Jim’s students are given a chance to shine in an annual class recital.
